Nicki Hopwood MSW, LCSW
Nicki began in field of Education as a secondary school teacher at a School in England. It was that position that led to her desire to work in the social work field. She was hired as an Outreach Caseworker/Assessment Counselor in MA which became the introduction to adolescents and young adult counseling. Nicki returned to teaching at Lake Michigan Academy, a day school for students diagnosed as LD or ADHD/LD. Nicki provided tutoring, achievement testing, and educational consultation services under the umbrella of HAPTEN Services. During this time Nicki earned her Masters in Social Work.
For the past 13years Nicki has worked with children, adolescents, young adults, adults, and families. She has worked in residentail treatment centers and outpatient services. Her work has included individual, family and group counseling in the areas of juveniles who have offended sexually, sexual abuse, Trauma, ADHD and learning differences, ODD and anger management, bereavement issues, and drug and alcohol abuse, pornography issues, and mental health issues.
In September 08, Nicki began teaching at University of Phoenix in the Mental Health Counseling graduate program.
Nicki has presented at local and national conferences including Troubled Youth Conference, NOJOS Casemanagement Conference, and National NAPN Conference.
She has authored a chapter for a book entitled, Current Perspectives and Applications in Neurobiology: Working with Young Persons who are Victims and Perpetrators of Sexual Abuse 2012 published by NEARI Press.
Nicki's therapeutci approach is a blend of Existentialism and the work of Harry Stack Sullivan.
